A new scientific partner joins iFOS to contribute in the development of the forecasting service line. SINTEF is one of Europe’s largest independent multidisciplinary research organizations and is based in Trondheim, Norway. SINTEF specializes in various research areas, such as Climate and Environment, Ocean Space, Oil and Gas, renewable energy and many more. Counting more than 70 years of action, SINTEF has developed solutions and innovation for society and customers all over the world, becoming a world-leading research institute.

SINTEF will assist in the evaluation of the technical aspects of IFOS and join efforts with the modeling team of EMVIS putting into the project the know-how of developing large ocean models i.e., SINMOD (Slagstad&McClimans, 2005; Wassmann, Slagstad, Riser, &Reigstad, 2006).SINMOD is a numericalocean model system, developed by SINTEF, which has beenundercontinuousdevelopment at for over 25 years. The model system connects and simulatesphysical and biological processes in the ocean. The system is established for both the northern and southernhemisphere. Moreover, SINTEF will join efforts with the project partner NTNU and the modeling team of EMVIS in the validation of the numerical models of coastal hydrodynamics and water quality, as well as assist in the investigation of methodology, implementation and operation of data assimilation methods that will be used in the project.
